A Batemans Barn Wedding – Norfolk Wedding Photographer

A BATEMANS BARN WEDDING

M A T T   &   C H R I S T I N E

Christine and Matt’s wedding was my very first Batemans Barn wedding, and I was so excited to be shooting at such a characteristic venue! It’s not very often Wedding venues are 10 minutes from my house and is also a working farm!

If I said that this bright, bold and vibrant Norfolk Wedding featured a Braai, Boab Tree and Marimba Band what Country springs to your mind? This gorgeous Summer’s June wedding took place at the idyllic Batemans Barn in Harleston – an impressive restored medieval barn, farm and farm house only half an hour from Norwich. So… if you haven’t guessed already, Christine is South African which meant lots and lots of family and friends flew from South Africa over to little ol’ Norfolk for a super fun and relaxed South African themed wedding day!

The owners (Nicole and her husband) behind this stunning, historic Norfolk wedding venue, were at hand with everything and accompanied by Nev and Christine’s amazing creative styling and the florist’s colourful flower garlands and arrangements, Bateman’s Barn became a vision of bold pinks, oranges and golds! There were so many unique and quirky little details that made the day so memorable and full of ambiance!

A Farm Wedding – Norfolk Wedding Photographer

M A X  &  C L A I R E

This stunning D.I.Y. Farm Wedding is probably one of the most anticipated outdoor weddings of the year and sums up exactly why I am an outdoor wedding photographer! Claire is a mutual horsey friend and I’ve known her for a few years now through mutual friends and competitions. I think I did a little dance after we met in Toft Monks over a drink in the Summer of 2016 to chat about their wedding plans! Max and Claire’s plan was to have the most relaxed, party vibe of a wedding that they could possibly have – farm reception, horses, tipis, fairy lights, reggae band and lots and lots of fun loving people! I knew this Suffolk Farm Wedding was going to be a blast and despite the very long day, I ended having my camera taken off of me so I could (awkwardly) join in with the dancing (I can’t dance…) It was so lovely to see old friends and everyone genuinely having the BEST day!

If you are debating on whether to plan a outdoor/ farm/ tipi/ festival styled wedding I am 100% sure that the photos featured in this blog post from Max and Claire’s big day will somewhat persuade you! The best June Summer’s day with amazing people and two of the best matched people in the world. I don’t think I stopped smiling all day!

Claire and her girls got ready at the beautifully rustic Fritton House Hotel in Suffolk, the ceremony took place at one of the most open and lightest churches I have ever photographed at and the reception took place in Blundeston at Claire’s family’s farm! Lots of locations = lots of different photos! I hope I have captured the story of the day as it unravelled and that you can gain a tiny insight into just how much fun myself and everyone had that day! More weddings like this please! #farmwedding #galleywedding #suffolkwedding

When I got told to sit down by the vicar and to stop taking photos… There will be a blog post about rude vicars and how to handle them and how to emphasise to them just how important your wedding photos mean to you and your fiancé! It is your day and sometimes you have to lay down some ground rules! Obviously as a photographer I 100% respect their part to play in your day but I your wedding photos should not come second!

A Suffolk Wedding: Mr & Mrs Rickman

A  S U F F O L K  W E D D I N G

C H R I S  &  G E O R G I A

I have been so looking forward to blogging this real wedding! One of my first weddings of 2017 and it was definitely one to remember! I first met with Georgia and Chris way back in 2015 to discuss their wedding day and I also took their pre-wedding, couple photos and I knew then that their wedding day was going to be smooth sailing! Their day was held at one of my favourite Suffolk venues, White Dove Barns in Hulver/ Beccles, a Elizabethan Farm House and working barns converted into the most beautiful houses for you and your guests to stay. I was accompanied by the lovely Georgia Rachael Photography who was my wingman for the day assisting with capturing the moments that I could not (the Groom and his Ushers getting ready in the morning, the bride arriving at the church and other times during the day.) It was so lovely to have Georgia with me as it made the day go super fast (all 13 hours of it!) As usual, I get extremely nervous putting my work online for everyone to see – especially when it’s a gallery of images that I love so much! Chris and Georgia’s Wedding is definitely one of those galleries! I really hope you enjoy scrolling through their day!

A Most Curious Wedding Show Norwich

M O S T   C U R I O U S

W E D D I N G   F A I R

Are you getting married this year or next and looking to steer clear of the cliche, ordinary, typical wedding? Wedding planning and staying true to your interests and creative flare can be extremely difficult in an industry that is deemed to be all white. Call me biased but a wedding show can really help your thoughts become reality. The Most Curious Wedding Show  will allow you to gather inspiration if you don’t know where to start and sometimes most importantly see what you don’t want, in order to focus on what you are after!
I cannot express enough that you need to make your wedding day YOUR OWN! My favourite weddings (and the ones that have had the best reception by all of my lovely brides when flicking through my portfolio) have been the weddings that have been different and personalised. It’s your day and you do not have to spend a fortune or conform to tradition to ensure that it is memorable and unique. I like to stress with all my couples that unless you have a day that reflects yourselves you are not going to enjoy the biggest day of your life ( plus the photos will simply be standard.)
Norfolk Wedding Photographer
I have been to my fair share of Wedding Fairs in the past as a visitor to see what they are all about and I am going to be totally honest, I felt so overwhelmed at the sheer size of them and volume of people flooding through the doors and it totally put me off from exhibiting. The lovely Penny from The Little Lending Company (a fab styling business based in Norfolk) approached me regarding The Most Curious fair and after scrolling through their website I couldn’t have found a more suitable fair for A) my first show as an exhibitor and B) a show where other exhibitors complimented and fit my ‘unique’ desired wedding market!

Most Curious is THE wedding show for the style-savvy couple. The first of its kind to strip back the labels – vintage, alternative, designer, luxury – let’s just keep it simple, stylish, free spirited and NOW. Most Curious carefully handpicks its merry gang of exhibitors who range from the very coolest of the established brands to up and coming… I am incredibly excited to be one of those exhibitors in the ‘Most Curious Gang’!
Please do come and say hello whether you are in the midst of booking suppliers for your wedding or already feel you have sorted everything – you never know if you have missed something that you would love your big day! It will be my first wedding fair and I have a feeling it’s going to be a pretty special one. There are so many fun and creative suppliers who will be exhibiting their work and it’s a great opportunity to meet everyone face to face. You never know, you may meet the suppliers you have booked!

Countryside Wedding – Norfolk Wedding Photographer

A WHIMSICAL SUMMER WEDDING IN THE NORFOLK COUNTRYSIDE

If you live or visit Norfolk its very hard to see past the beauty of the Norfolk and Suffolk countryside. Understandably there is a risk when it comes to organising an outdoor wedding as our British weather can be so temperamental and completely random at times! But there are so many benefits to organising a wedding that is solely based amongst the Norfolk fields/ woodlands/ barns AND apparently, Norfolk is the driest country of the UK (bonus!)

The Norfolk Wedding featured on this blog post is of Craig and Shani’s big day. They were fixated on having an Norfolk, Outdoor Wedding where they could have the day of their dreams alongside the people that mattered most with only the cows watching over the fence (one of which did have a cheeky Houdini moment and jumped in with the tents – he got herded back in with the others before running around the marquee!) The wedding took place at Hush Venues, just outside of Norwich, Norfolk where they were able to put up a gorgeous pole marquee and lots of teepee tents for their guests to stay in. The woodland was decorated all ready for their outdoor ceremony with paper lanterns, candles, lavender and gorgeous little hand made cushions.

Please have a little scroll and read through Craig and Shani’s reflection of their day – I really hope it persuades you to go for it and organise an outdoor wedding of your own!

OVERVIEW OF THE DAY

“We worked from a blank canvas choosing every aspect of how we wanted the day to look and feel. First thing was to find the right venue, we knew we wanted a wedding outdoors with some woodland and we found the most beautiful setting in Norfolk at ‘Hush Venues‘. The invites we designed ourselves, we even took a trip to an old paper mill in Hemel Hamstead to find the right card to use. We bought props and extra flower pots etc from an auction and collected numerous honey jars to use as tea light holders. We had lots of help from the family. Craigs mum did the flowers, Shanis Father in law played the accoustic guitar for the ceremony, Shani’s father brought the beer from bradfield brewery in sheffield, Craigs Dad did the morning after BBQ, Bridesmaids and Best Men were on hand to bring out the self catered food and pour the toasting lemoncello. but really, everyone helped in one way or another. We started planning 18 months prior to the day as there was lots of planning for us, from hiring the right marquee to stitching up the bunting.”

“The thing we enjoyed most was when we walked from the woodland after the ceromony, the music started, the sun was shining and everyone was really enjoying themselves we thought today was gonna be a great day!”

THE DRESS

“The Dress was bought from a vintage wedding dress shop in York, called Glory Days Vintage. It was the 4th shop i’d been too and on the way there my sister had said ‘right we’re going to find the one today’ and after trying on about 6 dresses all true vintage the lady in the shop suggested a bias cut silk 1930’s shape dress, at first I was dubious becuase i’d tried on a bias cut 1930’s gown in a previous shop and it looked hideous but this one fitted like a glove and was so flattering. I tottered around in it for a little while and then looked at my sister and she knew it was the one. So 14 months before the wedding i’d already picked my dress.”

THE FOOD

“We had prepared hamper boxes for the tables which contained a number of exciting things from a local Artisan Bakers called Pye Baker, it was like one big picnic. After food there were speeches toasted with vintage espresso cups full of lemocello, there were laughs, hugs and tears (hopefully of Joy). Once the bellys were full and speeches were finished everyone was back out enjoying the sunshine and music.”

“Soon the evening guests started arriving, grabbing a drink from the icy wheelbarrows joining in with conversation, it started to feel more energetic. The music tempo was increasing, conversation slightly louder, drinks disappearing more quickly and before long everyone was up and around the marquee dancing.”

A LITTLE ADVICE

“Some advice for those planning: Don’t be afraid to break the mould. Your ceremony can be whatever you want it to be if you wish. We chose to do the legal part the day before to allow us to marry entirely outdoors (as this isn’t currently legal in England). If you want an Norfolk outdoors ceremony somewhere not so reliable for the weather then be brave and go for it (also have a plan B of course) as the chances are it will be fine. In general, if you want to do things a little differently then do. Most importantly you need to ensure that you ENJOY YOURSELF!”
